- Portion of I-97 in Anne Arundel Co. buckles under extreme heat
A portion of Interstate 97 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, buckled due to extreme heat, causing concrete slabs and rebar to protrude across northbound lanes. Maryland Department of Transportation crews initially allowed traffic to use the median to bypass the damage, with delays expected through the holiday weekend. A similar incident occurred on Route 50 during a 2012 heat wave.
