New proposal from grid operator PJM would require data centers to bring their own power

PJM, the regional grid operator for most of the East Coast, has proposed a rule requiring new large-load customers, such as data centers, to bring their own power supply. Under this proposal, unprepared facilities may be asked to reduce loads or be moved onto backup generators during periods when the grid is strained. Should this rule pass, it would give states responsibility for creating policies that manage reliability and direct large-load users to pay for necessary energy projects.
