According to records obtained by Verite News, the state is projected to receive over $621 million in settlement funds, with sheriffs estimated to get $124 million of that money. However, while parish governments must file annual reports on spending, sheriffs’ offices are not required to report how the funds are spent, leaving this information largely unknown.
