East New York Residents Try Buying Back Their Neighborhood, One Lot At a Time

The East New York Community Land Trust purchased a 9,500-square-foot warehouse in East New York for $2.3 million to establish the East Brooklyn Liberation Center. This acquisition is historic because it marks the first time an NYC community land trust has acquired commercial property off the open market. The new center will serve as a multipurpose community center and business hub for local organizations.
