How a sanctuary outside LA has cared for rare, endangered gibbons for a half-century

The Gibbon Conservation Center in the Santa Clarita Valley has cared for rare and endangered gibbons across five species for about fifty years. Founded by Alan Mootnick, the center now houses around 40 gibbons and contributes to global research on their conservation. Director Gabi Skollar continues this mission while studying gibbon vocalizations in response to threats like habitat destruction.
