Former Hong Kong vigil organizer strives to mark Tiananmen crackdown despite convictions
Tang Ngok-kwan continues to discreetly remember the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown in Hong Kong, despite its status as a political taboo in mainland China. Despite an annual candlelight vigil vanishing and fellow activists being incarcerated, Tang visits historical sites like Victoria Park on the eve of the anniversary. Furthermore, two former colleagues were convicted under a Beijing-imposed national security law for allegedly inciting others to overthrow the leadership of China’s Communist Party.
