‘A close call’: South Charlotte neighbors narrowly escape falling tree struck by lightning

Severe afternoon storms struck the Charlotte area, causing a massive tree in South Charlotte to be struck by lightning and eventually fall across a neighborhood street. Neighbors like Mallory Ackerson and Austin Drake narrowly escaped serious damage and injury as utility lines were pulled down during the chaotic collapse. Duke Energy crews are currently working to restore electricity across the region.
