Despite record low in veteran homelessness, half the states saw increases
Although national veteran homelessness reached a record-low of 32,495 veterans in 2025, half of the states recorded increases during the January point-in-time count. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development counted that California saw the largest numerical decline, while Oregon registered the largest raw increase by numbers. Long-term reductions since 2010 are credited to sustained federal investments in housing and mental health services.
