Massachusetts needs a data-center strategy, not a series of permits
Massachusetts has paused its data-center sales-tax exemption while developing stronger protections for ratepayers, public health, and the environment. Instead of simply improving a permitting checklist, the state should implement a three-part strategy requiring data centers to pay the full costs of their energy, water, and infrastructure demands. This strategic approach also mandates developer-funded environmental master plans and statewide linkage contributions.
