Louisiana leads nation with veterans in poverty, analysis finds

An analysis found that Louisiana has the highest rate of poor military veterans in the nation, with 8.1% living below the poverty line from 2019-23. Neighboring states like Arkansas (7.9%) and Mississippi (7.14%) also reported high rates of veteran poverty. The state Department of Veterans Affairs set a goal of zero veteran poverty and noted efforts to connect veterans with benefits and jobs.
