Mecklenburg County Sheriff calls for more community involvement to combat mental health issues

Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden is urging greater community involvement to tackle persistent mental health issues among inmates in Charlotte. He noted that repeat offenders with these conditions often struggle because of a lack of resources and 'warm handoff' upon release from custody. To address this, McFadden suggests implementing treatment programs for those leaving detention centers or having courts mandate such treatments during probation.
