Thieves steal 4 Renaissance artworks in Sicilian museum heist on Italian holiday

Thieves stole four works attributed to the Renaissance painter Antonello da Messina from the MuMe regional museum in Messina on the Italian Ferragosto holiday. The stolen pieces included panels of the San Gregorio Polyptych and a double-sided Pietà depiction. Museum director Marisa Mercurio stated that the theft is a tremendous loss for the city, community, and art world.
