Prosecutors narrow their case ahead of the retrial of the man accused of setting the Palisades fire

Federal prosecutors are narrowing their case against Jonathan Rinderknecht ahead of a retrial for the man accused of starting the deadly 2025 Palisades fire in Los Angeles, California. Following a mistrial where ten out of twelve jurors wanted to acquit him on three felony charges, prosecutors filed a new indictment reducing the case to two charges and narrowing its scope. The revised charges allege Rinderknecht used a barbecue lighter on January 1, 2025, leading up to the major wildfire.
