NYPD officer convicted of using chokehold banned after death of George Floyd

NYPD officer Omar Habib was convicted of misdemeanor established in a local law banning chokeholds, along with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault. The charges relate to an incident in 2023 where he used a chokehold on a man resisting arrest at a Bronx catering hall. Following the conviction, Habib was dismissed from the New York Police Department.
