U.S. Treasury is paying $3 billion a day in interest on national debt, says the CBO—having spent $10 billion to prop up the currency of its top lender
The Congressional Budget Office reported that the government's near-$40 trillion national debt now costs over $3 billion a day in interest service payments, alongside deficits of $1.8 trillion in the first 10 months of the fiscal year. Separately, the U.S. Treasury confirmed efforts to stabilize the Japanese yen, which is important because Japan is a top holder of U.S. debt.
