Malaysian farmers, environmental groups call for rejection of GMO rice trial

A coalition of 61 organizations, including farmers and environmental groups, urged Malaysia’s National Biosafety Board to reject a proposed GMO rice field trial by Zen Cropscience in northern Perak state. The opponents warn that the project risks contaminating conventional crops through cross-pollination and raise concerns about food safety, inadequate biosafety laws, and increased herbicide use.
