Former Syrian President Assad sentenced to death in absentia

A Syrian court in Damascus sentenced Bashar Assad and his brother to death in absentia for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during Syria’s 14-year conflict. Additionally, Atef Najib was sentenced alongside them. The sentences were pronounced at the Fourth Criminal Court.
