FDA’s new additive list isn’t a ban — and won’t be checked

U.S. health officials proposed an FDA rule requiring food manufacturers to notify regulators and submit safety rationale for new ingredients, changing current policies regarding Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status. In a separate move, the FDA completed work on defining ultraprocessed food and submitted the definition to the White House for review.
