A blocked Iranian flight to Yemen set off Houthis’ latest spiral with Saudi Arabia

A volley of fire between Iranian-backed Houthis and Saudi Arabia has threatened a truce in Yemen, with U.N. envoy Hans Grundberg warning of renewed large-scale conflict risks. The escalation began after a Saudi airstrike hit Sanaa airport's runway when an Iranian flight carrying a Houthi delegation was prevented from landing. Following the event, the Houthis attacked Abha and Saudi shipping, prompting further strikes by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen’s Red Sea.
