Myanmar rebuffs ASEAN's call to free Aung San Suu Kyi and questions the need for an envoy

Myanmar’s military-backed government rejected ASEAN's call for the unconditional release of Aung San Suu Kyi and dismissed the need for the organization’s special envoy. The government stated that any full and unconditional release must follow the law, while President Min Aung Hlaing previously dismissed the ASEAN peace plan. Despite Myanmar's rebuffs, the Philippines welcomed a recent meeting between Suu Kyi and an International Committee of the Red Cross representative.
