Schumer caves, hands Republicans shutdown win after months of uncertainty

The Senate advanced a continuing resolution (CR) to avert a government shutdown that was expected to last into early December. Democratic Leader Schumer relented, staying true to a bargain with Republicans to keep the government funded past Election Night. However, the legislative battle for funding will continue in the House.
