Healey will sign immigrant protections into law Wednesday

Governor Maura Healey will sign a new immigrant protection bill into law, expanding restrictions on ICE activities in courthouses, schools, hospitals, and childcare centers. The law, which takes immediate effect, blocks new agreements for state-local immigration enforcement and preserves existing partnerships with ICE, while codifying a 2017 court decision limiting federal detainer use.
