Wildfire destroys about 230 homes in western Canadian Indigenous community, officials say

A wildfire destroyed about 230 homes in the Okanagan Indian Band near Vernon, British Columbia, driven by high winds. The Bradley Creek fire, which erupted late Friday, forced rapid evacuations and is among Canada’s most destructive fires in recent years, alongside the 2024 Jasper blaze and 2023 McDougall Creek wildfire. Over 8,000 people were evacuated across British Columbia as 120 wildfires burned, with 50 out of control.
