GPs’ breast cancer guidelines ‘miss’ 95% of women who will develop disease

Current breast cancer referral guidelines in England miss 95% of women under 50 who will develop the disease within 10 years, according to research from the University of Cambridge and the Institute of Cancer Research, London. The findings highlight a failure in National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) criteria to identify high-risk patients for early testing or preventive treatment.
