Rising sea levels spell disaster for US coastal wetlands

A study led by Duke University's Justine Neville found that 84% of U.S. coastal wetlands are being overtaken by rising sea levels, with 73% of these areas at risk of submergence without human intervention. Gulf Coast wetlands are most vulnerable due to historical shipping and fossil fuel extraction, while 70% of studied wetlands could potentially migrate inland if conservation efforts like sediment management and removal of dikes are implemented.
