2026 sees record low shootings and murders, NYPD says
The NYPD reported record low shootings (381) and murders (149) in the first seven months of 2026, with July itself also setting new lows in violent crime. Transit crime, however, increased by 1% year-to-date and over 10% in July, attributed to rises in felony assaults and grand larcenies.
