Wildfire smoke is now the primary pollutant affecting pregnancy, study shows

A study analyzing data from 64.5 million pregnancies between 2003 and 2019 found wildfire smoke to be the primary pollutant affecting pregnancy outcomes, including low birth weight and preterm births. The study, published in Frontiers in Environmental Health, noted that wildfire pollution has offset declines in other pollution sources, with 65% of days exceeding air quality standards linked to wildfires.
