‘A completely new person’: can surgery help Alzheimer’s patients regain basic skills?
A surgical procedure for Alzheimer’s disease, tested in Hong Kong by researchers at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), aims to improve patients' ability to perform basic tasks and remain socially engaged by draining abnormal protein buildups in the brain. The clinical trial is based on a method pioneered by a mainland Chinese doctor in Hangzhou since 2018.
