Senate leaders reach funding deal to avoid shutdown during campaign season

Senate leaders announced a short-term spending bill to fund federal agencies past the midterm elections and into early December, avoiding a government shutdown during campaign season. The bill funds the government at current levels through Dec. 11, excludes a Trump administration request for $1 billion in battleship funding, and reflects bipartisan efforts to prevent a third government shutdown in 10 months.
