China is making a great leap forward in food production – this time for real
China's 1958 Great Leap Forward campaign reported extreme agricultural yields, such as over 3,000 jin per mu in Henan province. Scientist Qian Xuesen published theoretical calculations on solar energy conversion for crop photosynthesis, which were used to support these claims.
