Anamarie Ávila Farías, a California assemblymember on the eldercare committee, attempted to place her mother, AnaMaria Ávila Bugarin, under conservatorship amid a real estate dispute. Bugarin spent tens of thousands of dollars proving she did not have dementia, which her daughter claimed to justify the conservatorship. Court records show Ávila Farías faced a temporary restraining order for elder abuse and settled the case with a real estate agreement.
