Diné community leaders protest Trump proposal to remove Chaco Canyon mining ban
Diné community leaders and allotment shareholders are protesting a Trump administration proposal to revoke a 2023 Bureau of Land Management (BLM) order that banned oil and gas extraction near New Mexico’s Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The BLM opened a public comment period on revoking the 20-year ban, which protects over 338,000 acres of federally managed land around the culturally significant site.
