MPD: Newly launched non-fatal shooting unit making a difference

Minneapolis Police Department's newly launched Firearm Assault Shoot Team (FAST) unit, formed in March 2023, is addressing non-fatal shootings by deploying 15 detectives, including seven from partner agencies, to investigate incidents promptly. The unit aims to prevent potential homicides by swiftly arresting shooters, with recent arrests including a double shooting on Nicollet Mall. The initiative has $2 million in funding and support from the mayor's office and City Council.
