Many of city’s cooling centers closed amid dangerous heat

New Orleans is experiencing dangerously high heat indices up to 115 degrees, with eight of 13 city-run cooling centers closed for post-summer maintenance, limiting public access to relief during peak heat. The city’s heat relief map incorrectly lists all centers as open, and some will remain closed until after the heat wave subsides.
