Formal and informal employment slumped during the first half of 2026

Mexico's workforce participation declined by nearly 300,000 during the first half of 2026, with June employment figures being the second-worst of the year. Job losses were linked to contractions in both formal and informal employment, though more severe in the latter, while the unemployment rate reached 2.9%, the highest since September 2025.
