Attorneys for Florida death row inmates seek stays of execution from U.S. Supreme Court

Attorneys for Florida death row inmates James Aren Duckett and Dominick Occhicone have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to stay their executions, scheduled for Tuesday. Duckett’s legal team claims insufficient evidence links him to the 1987 murder of Teresa McAbee and seeks DNA testing, while Florida argues the request is procedurally barred. The state has executed 10 death row inmates this year, more than half of all U.S. executions since January 2025.
