Democratic panel recommends South Carolina lead 2028 presidential nominating calendar

The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee recommended South Carolina hold the first Democratic primary in the 2028 presidential race, beating out Nevada and New Hampshire in a 26-19-4 vote. The decision, pending final approval, would make South Carolina the second consecutive cycle’s first primary. Iowa, historically first-in-the-nation for Democrats, is excluded from the 2028 early primary group.
