Priced out of Hawaii, this couple bought a home in rural Japan instead

Jeff Layfield and his wife Mamiko moved from Hawaii to Suo-Oshima, Japan, to retire, purchasing a $25,000 vacant home called an akiya. They were motivated by high housing costs in the US and a desire to live in Japan's countryside, influenced by their travels and life events in 2022.
