Wildfire forces another 55,000 people to evacuate in southwest France

A wildfire in southwest France forced the evacuation of 55,000 people overnight, bringing the total displaced in the Gironde region to 220,000 as flames approached Bordeaux. Gusting winds accelerated the fire's spread, prompting a highway closure and additional evacuations in five localities. A separate fire in the Landes region earlier in the week displaced 30,000 people, raising the overall evacuation total to over 250,000.
