Why thousands of Michigan votes likely won’t be counted in this year’s primary
Thousands of Michigan votes in August primaries are rejected due to crossover voting, where voters select candidates from different parties on the same ballot. Partisan votes on affected ballots are not counted, though nonpartisan sections remain valid. Macomb County saw 3.6% of ballots rejected in 2022, and Washtenaw County had a 1.5% rejection rate.
