The Okefenokee is about to be honored, but some locals aren’t celebrating

The Okefenokee swamp is set to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but some residents in nearby Georgia counties oppose the designation due to distrust of the United Nations. Local officials and anti-UNESCO groups argue the designation could lead to foreign influence, despite assurances from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service that UNESCO would not manage the site.
