ICE abandons plans to convert 2 rural Pennsylvania warehouses into detention centers
The federal government has abandoned plans to convert two warehouses in Berks and Schuylkill counties, Pennsylvania, into immigration detention centers. Gov. Josh Shapiro cited withdrawal of permit requests by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which had initially proposed housing 9,000 people at the sites in January.
