Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall in Louisiana's St. Bernard Parish and moved west toward Texas, bringing wind gusts up to 45 mph (75 kph) and storm surges of up to 3 feet (1 meter). The storm, which closed Gulf Coast beaches and issued tropical storm warnings from Alabama to Louisiana, was forecast to dissipate in Texas by Friday with minimal widespread damage expected.
