'We saw and heard the rattle': Witness describes Oakland County snake bite

A Novi man was bitten by an Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake near Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township while attempting to photograph it. The victim received antivenom at the University of Michigan hospital and is recovering, as these bites are rarely fatal with prompt treatment. Experts emphasized the snake's threatened status and advised maintaining a 2-3 foot distance if encountered.
