Judge approves a $1.5B Anthropic settlement over books used to train Claude

A federal judge approved a $1.5 billion copyright settlement against Anthropic for using pirated books to train its Claude chatbot, with authors set to receive about $3,000 per book. Over 91% of 482,000 books covered in the class-action lawsuit have been claimed by authors or publishers.
