Mamdani’s tech ‘PIT crews’ draw 2,800 applicants ahead of first test

Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Public Interest Technology (PIT) Crews initiative has attracted 2,800 applicants for 30 city-funded tech roles across four teams, with a fifth crew supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. The program focuses on building digital government services with in-house talent, offering positions in engineering, design, product management, and user research without requiring a civil service exam.
