Louvre reopens Apollo Gallery after a brazen heist, but no jewels on display

The Louvre reopened its Apollo Gallery after a 2023 heist in which thieves stole crown jewels valued at 88 million euros. The gallery now serves its original 17th-century ceremonial purpose, with security upgrades including new surveillance and anti-intrusion systems. The museum is also modernizing infrastructure under its decade-long 'Louvre New Renaissance' plan, costing up to 800 million euros.
