US actions harm global efforts to prevent and treat HIV in dozens of countries, new report says

The Trump administration’s disruptions to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) caused clinic closures, staff layoffs, and reduced HIV services in 46 countries. A report by amfAR found that over 1,700 clinics closed and 16,000 staff members were lost, with severe cuts to prevention programs and services for high-risk populations like sex workers and people who inject drugs.
