China plans to hit an asteroid with a Mach 26 projectile in planet defence test
China plans to launch a planetary defense mission by 2030, aiming to directly alter an asteroid’s orbit or break up its structure using a Mach 26 projectile. The mission is described as more ambitious than NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (Dart), which focused on nudging an asteroid’s orbit.
