Paris region's record June heatwave more than doubled normal mortality rate to reach 3,000
The Paris region experienced a record June heatwave that caused 1,565 more deaths than expected over a week, with mortality rates more than doubling. Over 80% of the fatalities involved people aged 65 and older, according to a report by France's public health agency.
